News in Retrospective 2009

In the crossover period between our original website to the one you are viewing now, and even before we had such a thing as a website, our customers and our own factory car were doing newsworthy things on race tracks. One such person is Neil Hawker, the owner of the blue and white car featured prominently on this site. Neil is a hill climb enthusiast, and has run his car in a number of events at Rob Roy and Haunted Hills. As a competitor of the 2009 Victorian Hill climb Championship at Rob Roy, Neil completed 5 runs with times of 23.56, 23.09, 23.34, 22.96 and on his final run,a 22.57. He finished 1st in his class  {Class J Sports Cars (Open/Closed 1601cc and over)} 15th Outright, and his 22.57 time remains a class record to this day.

August 28 saw Daytona's #65 coupe competing at Winton in the Super TT class of the Victorian Motor Racing Championship, with Jamie Augustine again at the wheel. A better result could not have been had, with 4 wins from 4 race starts, and a new Super TT lap record of 1:28.134, set by Jamie. Keep an eye on our Events/Results page for a more detailed view of the weekend, including details on the cars launch control progression.

4/2011 - Bathurst Easter Motor Festival

Daytona Sports Cars took the checkered flag at the Bathurst 1 hour race over the easter weekend. Driving duties were shared by Jamie Augustine and Andrew Miedecke, both of which lapped the circuit with times in the 2:18's. During the qualifying session on the Saturday, Andrew's 2:18.2175 became the new lap record for Production Sports Cars, only to be bested later in the day by the Lotus of Scott Bargwanna. Jamie took second place on Saturdays Driver A race, while Andrew crossed the line first in the Driver B race. But it as Sundays 1 hour endurance race that all the attending teams had their eyes on. Despite a drive through penalty for jumping the start, Jamie and Andrew put in fast and faultless drives, and once back in the lead, never looked like being threatened, able to slow for the last few laps to cruise through to the end with a 19 second lead over the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560 of Ted Huglin in 2nd, and the third place Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car of Ray Angus. With much development still to come, the future is looking bright for Daytona Sports Cars factory Coupe. Keep an eye on the videos page for in-car footage soon to be posted.

4/2011 - Targa Tasmania

Sadly for Tim Hendy, Graeme Beaupeurt and their navigators, Targa Tasmania ended a little too soon this year. Graeme went off road on the first stage of the first day, damaging the radiator and steering. After fixing the car, he returned to the action the following day only to have the differential fail. Tim started the event in fantastic fashion, as the 3rd fastest car on the Prologue. Hovering around 15th position in Modern on the third day, he also experienced mechanical drama, with early reports suggesting a problem with the tailshaft.
